About Zac

My Background and approach

Welcome! I’m an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) with a rich background in community, public, and private mental health services. My career began at eheadspace, where I provided online counseling for young people aged 12–25 across Australia. This early experience ignited my passion for addressing diverse mental health needs and understanding their broader impacts on our lives.

Since then, I’ve worked extensively in public mental health, particularly within CYMHS/CAMHS settings, where I’ve supported young individuals and their families dealing with complex and long-term mental health challenges. Much of my focus has been on engaging with young people experiencing psychotic disorders and those who fall into the “missing middle”—individuals who might not fit into conventional services. This has deepened my skills in engagement, understanding distress, and exploring the relational aspects of mental health.

I’ve also embraced roles in community engagement and development, gaining experience in program creation, secondary consultation, reflective practice, and providing training for various service groups. My practice is informed by a range of theories and models, with a special focus on relational supervision and consultation through Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). CAT emphasizes exploring the relational dynamics between workers and clients, considering both current and past relationships.

In addition to CAT, I integrate elements of CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) into my work. I have a particular interest in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and diverse groups. My expertise includes working with anxiety, mood disorders, personality and relational difficulties, psychosis, trauma, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and identity issues.

My approach is warm and empathetic, aiming to understand each individual within their unique context and helping them navigate their inner world while finding ways to move forward. I believe in a flexible, collaborative approach, recognizing that no single model fits all.
